Construction Begins on Indiana Beach’s Steel Hawg Coaster

Monticello, Indiana – March 3, 2008 – As the city of Monticello puts away its snow shovels, the crew at Indiana Beach brought out their backhoes and began digging the footers for the park’s sixth roller coaster the Steel Hawg. Pieces of the custom steel inverting coaster began arriving at the 83 year-old amusement park last week. The ride is being manufactured by S & S Worldwide, Inc., and ride sections are scheduled to continue to arrive over the next several weeks.

The Steel Hawg, the state’s first custom steel inverting coaster, is 96 feet tall and will feature a distinctive 120-degree first drop along with multiple inversions. The Steel Hawg will be an entirely unique ride and Indiana Beach’s sixth roller coaster.

Anticipation and excitement is building in the air at Indiana Beach with the arrival of the new coaster as well as with the arrival of the park’s new owners, Morgan RV Resorts, which purchased the park from the Spackman family in February. “There is nothing like the feeling that comes with building a new coaster. Employees are excited to come to work each morning to watch the ride’s progress,” offered John Collins, General Manager of Indiana Beach. “This is going to be an outstanding ride, and something that can only be found at Indiana Beach.”

“By adding a sixth coaster to the park’s collection of thrill rides, we hope to attract even more families to Monticello when the park opens for the season on May 3,” added Collins.

Indiana Beach Amusement Resort is Indiana’s largest amusement resort and dedicated to wholesome family fun. Located in northwest Indiana on beautiful Lake Shafer in Monticello, Indiana, 95 miles north of Indianapolis or 110 miles south of Chicago, Indiana Beach is home to six roller coasters, an exciting water park, sandy beach, two campgrounds, shopping, dining, dancing and more.
